B-logbook: 25.04.2019: Bruce Springsteen Announces New Solo Album “Western Stars“

Western Stars, Bruce Springsteen’s new solo album is out on 14th June 2019.

After some mysterious photographs, posted on Instagram and other social media, hinting at maybe a new album release, Bruce Springsteen officially confirmed today that he will release a new solo album without his fab E Street Band. “This record is a return to my solo recordings featuring character-driven songs and sweeping, cinematic orchestral arrangements,” Springsteen commented in a statement. “It’s a jewel box of a record.”

The 13 new songs on Western Stars, his first since 2012’s Wrecking Ball, are influenced by Southern California pop music of the Seventies”, said Springsteen. “Glen Campbell, Jimmy Webb, Burt Bacharach, those kinds of records. I don’t know if people will hear those influences, but that was what I had in my mind. It gave me something to hook an album around; it gave me some inspiration to write.”

The album is again produced by Ron Aniello, with whom Springsteen also worked on his previous two albums. Along Aniello, who also plays bass, keyboards and some more, over 20 other musicians play on Western Stars, quite many for what is called a solo album. Among them are Bruce Springsteen’s wife Patty Scialfa and the original E Street Band keyboard player David Sancious.

Western Stars’ Track List goes as follows: Hitch Hikin’ / The Wayfarer / Tucson Train / Western Stars / Sleepy Joe’s Café / Drive Fast (The Stuntman) / Chasin’ Wild Horses / Sundown / Somewhere North of Nashville / Stones / There Goes My Miracle / Hello Sunshine / Moonlight Motel.

The first video for the album, Hello Sunshine, will be released today at midnight.
